Mumbai: The Airline Operators Committee (AOC) of Mumbai airport has said it’s members have not agreed to reduction of slots and transfer of international flights to Navi Mumbai.

The AOC which represents 47 airlines has again asked the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) to adhere to Civil Aviation Ministry’s slot allocation guidelines before finalising capacity reduction.

The AOC has raised these points in response to airport operator’s letter on Friday which asks airlines to arrange video calls with their network planning teams to finalise traffic reallocation between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports for summer schedule of 2027. The airport has asked airlines to complete consultations by October 21 and said transition plan would be presented at the next stakeholder meeting on October 28.

Not Acceptance

In response the AOC expressed its concern regarding “continued pursuit of these proposals without prior agreement and a transparent, collaborative consultation process. The latest communication appears to presume that the proposed reallocation of international traffic has been agreed or is inevitable. This is expressly not accepted.”

The AOC has said individual airline consultations or participation in discussions must not be construed as collective acceptance or consent on behalf of other airlines.

Mumbai airport had proposed cancellation of one-third of international slots from October 26. Following opposition from airlines the issue reached Civil Aviation Ministry which has asked airlines and airport to discuss the issue. The cancellation of slots has been pushed back to next summer schedule, according to airport officials.

Airlines first want a discussion on refurbishment of airport’s terminal 1 including its scope, timeline, terminal wise capacity and utilisation data. “These details must be formally shared and jointly examined before any alternative operational arrangements are considered,” the AOC wrote to Mumbai airport on Saturday.
